Since the launch of the Valve Steam Deck, and subsequently the Steam Machine, much of Valve's focus in developing SteamOS has been on adding features and support for games, hardware, and other platforms, like Lenovo's and ASUS's gaming handhelds. More recently, specifically since SteamOS 3.8's launch, it seems like Valve is dedicating more time to fixing bugs and polishing the experience.
This has held true with the latest SteamOS 3.8.26 beta, which is entirely dedicated to fixing bugs in both desktop and game mode, and even a few tweaks for VR support ahead of the Steam Frame launch. The biggest, and likely the most notable change is a fix for performance degradations that came from games and features that required composition—most commonly seen with FSR enabled.
Valve also fixed several Desktop Mode bugs, including one that previously resulted in occasional freezing in Firefox, and another that allowed desktop resolutions below 640 × 480, which was unreadable. Read full story
